FAA Certifies Cessna Citation XLS+ Jet
Wichita, Kan.-based Cessna Aircraft Co. announced that its Citation XLS+ jet earned a full type certificate (TC) from the Federal Aviation Administration on June 2nd. Cessna said that nearly 600 hours of flight tests had been conducted on thtwin-engine jet, enabling the company to meet its goal of obtaining a TC. The first XLS+ delivery is expected before the end of 2008.

The XLS+ features Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21 avionics, Pratt & Whitney Canada's full authority digital engine control (FADEC) capabilities, with the interior's expanded seat widths and the exterior contour of the nose, resembling the Citation X [the fastest civil aircraft certified to date] and the Citation Sovereign models.

According to Cessna, the XLS+ can take off from runways as short as 3,560 feet at standard, sea level conditions. The newly certified jet can travel as fast as 440 knots and has a service range of more than 1,858 nautical miles. The jet can land on runways as short as 2,700 feet (823 meters), at its typical landing weight.

The original Citation Excel was delivered in May 1998, followed by the Citation XLS in July 2004. The 500th Excel/XLS was delivered in June 2006, making the Excel/XLS the best-selling aircraft of all business jet models since Cessna's introduction. The fleet of Excel/XLS aircraft includes nearly 650 planes with an accumulated total of more than 1.4 million flight hours, according to Cessna.
