| Balloon catches fire injuring Pilot |
An Arizona pilot was injured Monday when his hot air balloon caught fire during landing.
Gary Moore of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., was taken to Battle Creek Health System with first- and second-degree burns on his arms, according to Battle Creek police.
Moore was landing in a yard at 151 S. 24th St. with one passenger about 20:59 at the end of a flight during the Field of Flight Air Show and Balloon Festival.
Witnesses said the propane-fueled burners remained on as the basket hit the ground and the envelope caught fire.
Moore reached into the basket and turned off the tanks and shut down the burners after Moore and his passenger, who police identified as Todd Leatherman, scrambled away.
Moore has been a pilot since 1992 and flew the Gr-r-reat Tony balloon for the Kellogg Co. from 1997 until 2002. He has flown several special shape balloons. The balloon he was flying Monday is called Timepeace and is the second balloon based on Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon album cover.
