| Adventurer succeeds in steering a tiny balloon across Atlantic |
A British adventurer has succeeded in piloting a small helium balloon across the Atlantic Ocean, setting a record in the process.
David Hempleman-Adams, who lifted off from St. John's on Monday night inside a basket little bigger than a coffee table, was about 3 kilometres in the air when he crossed over the northwest coast of France early Friday.
"I can't believe it. We've done it," Hempleman-Adams said in a message posted to the mission's website. "I'm so pleased, thank you everyone."
Hempleman-Adams landed just south of Dijon, France, amid winds of 15 knots, or about 28 kilometres per hour, according to the website.
