| AA Flight Makes Emergency Landing |
Passengers leaving DFW International Airport headed for Disney World got an adventure long before arriving at the park.
It was a scary night for the passengers and crew onboard American Airlines flight 1538 Thursday night, heading out of Dallas for Orlando.
The plane departed at 20:50 after which the right engine-turbine failed, prompting the pilot to turn around for an emergency landing at DFW.
Some passengers described what sounded like an explosion in the engine. "A big explosion, for one minute we don't know what's going on, but we figured it out. We lost one of the turbines on the airplane."
Only 115 passengers decided to continue on the rescheduled flight to Orlando, 3 hours later. When the plane landed safely in Florida, passengers were greeted with open arms, and let out sighs of relief.
American Airlines says the problem flight was an MD80 aircraft. The plane was certified by the Federal Aviation Administration in August of 1980. An FAA official out of Orlando says the plane has been pulled from service at DFW.
